We type a question and receive an answer seconds later. The effort that makes this apparent simplicity possible usually remains invisible.

A short video about the scale of training large language models invites us to reconsider the proportions behind generative AI. While using it feels effortless, it depends on elaborate training processes and technical infrastructure.

Perhaps this contrast is itself a sign of our post-generative present: what appears to us as an immediate answer has a history we barely notice anymore.
