# No AI, No Search Either

Schools want to decide for themselves whether and how generative AI should be used in the classroom. But this decision may be becoming increasingly difficult.

According to several media reports, disabling certain AI features in Google's services also makes traditional Google Search unavailable to students [1][2][3].

This means that a decision against generative AI also becomes a decision against an established search engine.

The case illustrates how closely generative AI is now intertwined with existing digital services. AI is no longer merely an additional feature that can be enabled or disabled independently. Instead, it is increasingly becoming a permanent part of digital infrastructure.

Another indication of a post-generative world in which the question is no longer just whether to use AI, but whether it is still possible to opt out of it altogether.
